A Local Tradition - Founded in 1995 by the Kainz family here in Lake Barrington, The Wild Onion Brewing Company is committed to brewing the freshest, most flavorful ales and lagers available to local beer lovers. We craft our own interpretation of world-class beer styles right below you in our state-of-the-art brewery and cellar complex. The beer we serve travels no further than 100 feet from kettle to tapper, which means you are drinking beer at its absolute peak of quality and freshness.
Our name is a tribute to the local Potawatomi name for this region,“Che-Cau-Gua”, meaning the land of the wild onion (or stinking onion when translated directly!) Hundreds of years ago, the local Indians travelled the regional rivers and creeks by canoe, surrounded by the beautiful-yet odiferous-wild onion growing along the banks.
